2 mL (1 mL min.) Serum from 1 SST. Collect specimen 4 hours after the patient has awakened. Overnight fasting is preferred. Ship refrigerated or frozen. Prolactin is secreted episodically. Pooling equal volume of serum from 3 samples drawn at 15 minute intervals is recommended.

This assay is a useful aid in the evaluation of Pituitary tumors, Amenorrhea, Galactorrhea, Infertility & Hypogonadism. It also helps in monitoring therapy in prolactin producing tumors.
